While walking to brunch in the Pearl District, we noticed a storefront adorned with tiny red flags and hanging lights that were as vibrant as Chinese firecrackers. From the sidewalk, it appeared that this store sold unique trinkets similar to what you would find in the street and tourist markets of Asia. The original plan was to go in and see if Cargo had mini paper kites like the ones David remember from China, but upon realizing how large the store was and just how much was inside, we decided to let ourselves get carried away in exploring. This store is basically World Market on steroids. Cargo sells direct imports from around the world including antiques, furniture, clothing, handmade goods and other cultural commemoratives. Additionally, they sell jewelry and other goods by Portland locals. This place is definitely worth a visit, and a second blog post to come.
